Vitamin E provides antioxidant effects that can help prevent the formation of free radicals, which are damaging molecules or atoms that play a role in various age-related conditions (such as cancer or heart disease). There are eight different types of this vitamin, some of which are more active than others. Normal doses are probably safe for most people, although high doses can cause problems. While most people tolerate vitamin E supplementation well, potential side effects include weakness, diarrhea, and intestinal cramping.
