Namenda Drug Interactions

Dextromethorphan, amantadine, and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are some of the medications that should not be taken with Namenda. Drug interactions may occur if the medicines are combined that could lead to side effects or other problems. To help prevent these potentially negative Namenda drug interactions, tell your healthcare provider about any other drugs you are taking before using this Alzheimer's disease medication.

 

Namenda Drug Interactions: An Overview

Namenda® (memantine hydrochloride) can potentially interact with a number of other medications. Some of the medicines that may lead to Namenda drug interactions include:
 
 
    • Acetazolamide (Diamox®)
    • Brinzolamide (Azopt®)
    • Dichlorphenamide (Daranide®)
    • Dorzolamide (Trusopt®)
    • Methazolamide
 
  • Dextromethorphan, an ingredient in many cough medications
  • Ketamine (Ketalar®)
  • Sodium bicarbonate.

Amantadine (Symmetrel)
Amantadine and Namenda affect certain brain receptors in a similar way. Therefore, it is not known if it is safe to take these medications together. Make sure to check with your healthcare provider before combining these two medications.
