Namenda XR and Breastfeeding

No studies have been conducted on Namenda XR (memantine XR) and breastfeeding, so it is not known whether the drug passes through breast milk. Because the medication is only approved for treating Alzheimer's disease, however, it is unlikely that a woman of childbearing age would need to use it. If you are taking this medication and breastfeeding, talk to your healthcare provider about any potential risks.

Can Women Take Namenda XR While Breastfeeding?

At this time, it is unknown if Namenda XR® (memantine XR) passes through breast milk in humans. If you are breastfeeding or are thinking about breastfeeding, you should talk with your healthcare provider before taking this drug.

Research on Breastfeeding and Namenda Use

No studies have been done to see if Namenda XR passes through breast milk in women. Also, because this medication has not been adequately studied in any infants or children, it is not known if it could have any negative effects on an infant if it does pass through breast milk.
