Alzheimers Home > Types of Dementia
There are many different types of dementia, including:
- Multi-infarct dementia (a type of vascular dementia caused by a disruption of blood flow to the brain)
- Lewy body dementia
- Binswanger's disease
- Frontotemporal dementia
- Huntington's disease.
In addition, the type of dementia a person has can be categorized based on factors such as what part of the brain is affected or what is causing the dementia. For example, cases of dementia may be said to be cortical or subcortical, depending on whether the brain damage is affecting the cortex. Primary dementia, secondary dementia, and progressive dementia are some of the other classifications.
