Dementia is not a specific disease but rather a description of a group of symptoms, such as behavioral or memory problems. It is caused by many conditions, including Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease. People who have dementia may lose their ability to solve problems and maintain emotional control, experience personality changes and behavioral problems, and experience memory loss. In about 10 percent of cases, the symptoms are caused by treatable conditions, meaning that the progression of symptoms can be reversed or stopped with early treatment.
