Aricept® (donepezil hydrochloride) is a medication licensed for the treatment of mild, moderate, or severe Alzheimer's disease. By preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine (a chemical that aids in many brain functions) in the brain, the drug can help slow the decline in memory and learning and allow a person with Alzheimer's symptoms to perform daily tasks. While most people tolerate Aricept well, potential side effects include nausea, diarrhea, and headache.
